Over the past decade I have been helping companies of all industries enter the Japanese market.
Each time a company planned to set up an entity in Japan there was always a discussion about why they needed to appoint a director who lived in Japan to establish.
With the March 16, 2015 official statement by the Ministry of Justice removing this requirement, this discussion has changed considerably. In this article, I attempt to explore the history of this issue, how it was before the recent statement by the MoJ and some of my personal insights about the reality of the situation.
